The MLS expansion side played its first match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, rolling to a 3-0 victory over FC Dallas.
It was Gonzalez Pirez who claimed the honors of scoring the first goal at the state-of-the-art stadium, tapping home at the far post in the 14th minute after Hector Villalba flicked on a Miguel Almiron cross.
Josef Martinez then made it 2-0 moments after second-half kickoff, sending the 45,314 fans into raptures by converting Almiron’s low service across the box.
And Greg Garza capped the scoring in the 68th minute, scoring from point-blank range after Martinez expertly dummied Villalba’s service.
Atlanta (11-8-6) sits in the sixth and final playoff in the Eastern Conference entering Wednesday’s match at home against the New England Revolution.
