Patrick appeared to lose control of her car as she collided with the outside wall, creating heavy damage and a small fire underneath her right-front. Running closely behind and unable to get out of the way, Kasey Kahne ended up driving into her bumper for the third caution flag of the day.

Patrick, who will drive in the 2018 Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 next season is without all but retiring after this race. Kahne on the other hand, will also see a change next season as he moves from Hendrick Motorsports to the No. 95 for the 2018 season.

“Kind of the story of the year,” Patrick told NBC Sports after her 11th DNF of the season. “I’d start to run better and things would happen.”
