The two had a terse sideline encounter in which Kelly came running over to Grimes and pushed him back while further shoves were exchanged.
“David was going to get us a 15-yard penalty,” Kelly said after the game (via ND Insider). “I had to control the sideline. I wasn’t going to let that happen. He got a little too close and I backed him up out of the way to make sure we didn’t get a 15-yard penalty.”
Notre Dame escaped Philadelphia with a tight 24-20 victory over Temple, so Kelly and Grimes shouldn’t feel too bad.
