The U.S. international struck in the first half of his club’s match against Mainz, slamming a shot home from the edge of the box to give HSV the lead in the first half.
It was Wood’s third Bundesliga goal of 2016-17 and his fifth in all competitions. The 24-year-old received a red card in his side’s 3-0 defeat to Cologne on Oct. 30 and missed all of November while serving a three-match ban.
Wood’s goal wouldn’t be enough for Hamburg on Saturday, as Danny Latza’s hat trick gave Mainz a 3-1 win in the match.
